Linking people to science
Outreach efforts
I am a fervent believer that as scientists we should not only advance the field of study, but also use our positions to connect and improve the lives of the communities we work in.
Therefore, I am dedicated to
... providing research opportunities for undergraduate scientists
... improving resources for graduate student wellbeing and professional development
... organizing and sharing science for public seminars and non-profit webpages
... coordinating scientific outreach programs with partnering schools and programs

Mentoring Undergraduate Scientists
Through programs established at BML with UCD CMSI and Santa Rosa Junior College, I provide a working partnership with undergraduate students interested in marine science to introduce and/or refine research skills. I am eager to embrace any experience level and strive to maximize the experience by molding the opportunity to fit their needs and goals. Some internships have resulted in blog post publications! See the links below for more information.

2020 - 2022
Graduate Student Representative: Bodega Marine Science Association
I passionately serve as the graduate student liaison, representing grad student wellbeing needs to the administration team and executive committee at BML. Example outcomes have been: updating local healthcare options on resources website and managing the provided carpool vehicle at the lab. Recently, I have been appointed to the COVID-19 working group to help establish reopening protocols for the lab and student gym.
Fall 2019 - 2021
"Day of" coordinator: John and Mary Louise Riley, BML Seminar Series Committee
With COVID-19 cancelling our in-person seminar series we had to move everything to a virtual platform. This involved a tremendous effort by the whole leadership team to broadcast our quarterly seminar online. Personally, I am responsible for updating and restructuring all guidelines and protocols for speakers and hosts and coordinating with IT personnel for webinar platform use. The potential for expanding our audience has been fruitful and as a result, we have more than doubled our attendance from prior years!
Want to know more? Check out our schedule for future seminar speakers, or, watch recorded videos from previous seminars.
2020
Profession Development co-Officer: Graduate Student Affairs Committee (Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute)
I work with a small cub-committee of GSAC to host various professional development needs of the CMSI graduate student community. Personally, I have conceptualized and coordinated an introduction to remote sensing workshop to be held spring 2021. Stay tuned for updates!
spring 2020 - 2023
Blog writer: Society for Historical Underwater Navigation Research (SCHUNRs)
I am volunteering as a blog writer for SCHUNRs to promote greater knowledge and stewardship of our maritime cultural heritage along the Sonoma-Mendocino coastline. Learn more about the knowns & unknowns of Sonoma Coast shipwrecks, along with the tragic misfortune of the Maggie Ross schooner ship
summer 2018 - spring 2020
Outreach Coordinator: Bodega Marine Science Association
Outreach events hosted by BML residents are diverse in nature and combine hands-on activities (through the use of touch tanks) to onsite tours and full-day research events to activity booths on World Ocean's Day. I served as the point-person for organizing onsite activities along with coordinating teams of volunteers for offsite visits.
